**Multiple Injured in Active Shooter Situation at Apalachee High School, Suspect in Custody**

On Wednesday morning, multiple individuals were injured in an active shooter situation at Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia. According to Barrow County Sheriff Jud Smith, one suspect is currently in custody. The exact number of victims and their conditions have not yet been disclosed.

Senior Sergio Caldera, 17, described being in his chemistry class when the shooting began. "My teacher opened the door to see what was happening. Another teacher rushed in and told her to lock the door because there was an active shooter," Caldera recounted. The students took cover in the back of the room as they heard gunshots and screams. The class later evacuated to the football field.

Following the incident, Apalachee High School was cleared for dismissal, and all other Barrow County Schools were placed on a "soft lockdown" for safety reasons. The Barrow County School District advised parents not to visit schools during this lockdown and stated that students cannot be released until it is deemed safe.

Winder, located about 45 miles outside of Atlanta, has seen a significant law enforcement response. FBI and Georgia Bureau of Investigation agents are at the scene. President Joe Biden has been briefed on the situation, and his administration is coordinating with federal, state, and local officials. Attorney General Merrick Garland expressed his sorrow and offered support, while Georgia Governor Brian Kemp called for prayers for those affected.

In response to the event, Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens announced that patrols around schools in Atlanta will be increased as a precaution.
